If you’ve got an old appliance sitting in the garage or the backyard, you’ve probably asked yourself, does Redwood Recycling take this? It’s one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is, it depends on what it’s made of.
Here’s the full rundown so you know before you load up the truck.
The short version
Most appliances are priced and paid out as tin, so before you head over, check our current tin pricing to know roughly what you’ll walk away with. Large appliances we accept
These are all welcome as they are, no need to disassemble them first:
- Washers
- Dryers
- Dishwashers
- Stoves
- Ranges (gas or electric)
- Ovens
- Range hoods
- Pizza ovens
- Garbage disposals
All of these are typically paid out at our tin rate. Bring them in as a full unit and we’ll take it from there.
the exception: Fridges and freezers
Refrigerators and freezers are the big exception on this list, and it comes down to one thing: Freon. Freon has to be properly removed before a fridge or freezer can be recycled as scrap metal, and that’s not something we’re set up to do here.
The good news is you don’t have to figure out disposal on your own. Wasatch Metal removes the Freon and accepts fridges and freezers for a $20 fee. Bring it to them and you’re done.
Small kitchen appliances we accept
If it’s metal, we probably want it. This includes:
- Toasters
- Coffee makers
- Ice cream makers
- Steamers
- Air fryers
- Mixers
- Meat slicers
- Microwaves
- Pots and pans
- Bakeware
- Cutlery
Same as above, these come in as tin, so check the tin price before you come in.
What we don’t accept
Plastic. We pay for metal, not plastic, so appliances that are mostly plastic housing with only small metal components inside aren’t a good fit here. That’s the reason vacuums are a no. Most vacuums are built almost entirely from plastic, with only small motor components in metal, so there isn’t enough recoverable metal to make it worth it to us, so we do not accept them.
If you’re ever unsure whether something is metal enough to bring in, give us a call before you make the drive. We’d rather answer a quick question over the phone than have you show up with something we can’t take.
