GETTING STARTED

How does the process work?

It’s simple. Bring your materials to our yard. No appointment needed.

Bringing Steel or Iron?
Pull onto the scale by our office to get weighed, then drive to the back of the building to unload. Cross the scale again on your way out for your final weight, grab your payment ticket, then park and come inside to get paid.

Bringing Anything Else?
For aluminum, copper, brass, stainless, and everything else, pull up to our bay doors. Our staff will weigh your materials, help you unload, and hand you a payment ticket. Then park and come inside to get paid.

Most visits take about 15 minutes.

What do I need to bring to recycle metal?
  • A valid state ID, military ID, or U.S. passport (required by Utah law)
What are your hours?

Monday–Friday: 8am–5pm
Saturday: 8am–2pm
Sunday: Closed

We stop accepting metal 15 minutes before closing to allow time for processing.

How do I get paid?

You’re paid on the spot, same day. After we weigh and grade your metal, take your payment ticket to the office and walk out with cash.

WHAT WE ACCEPT

Do you take appliances? Washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers?

Yes. We accept most metal appliances, including washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers, and stoves. Water heaters and anything that holds fluid should be drained first.

We do not accept refrigerators or freezers. Wasatch Metals accepts them for a $20 fee to remove the freon.

See the full list on our What We Accept page.

Do you take aluminum cans and food cans?

Yes to both. Aluminum beverage cans (soda, beer, energy drinks) and steel food cans (soup, vegetables, pet food) are all accepted. Labels are fine; just empty and rinse them. See current rates on our Prices page.

Do you take car parts, radiators, and batteries?

Yes — car parts (drained of all fluids), radiators (drained), and lead-acid batteries. We don’t take whole automobiles. Pricing varies by metal; see our Prices page or call for a quote.

What's the full list of what you accept?

We take a wide range — appliances, wire, pipe, sheet metal, stainless, brass, copper, aluminum, steel, and more. The easiest way to check your specific item is our What We Accept page, which lists items by type. Still unsure? Just call us.

I have a large load. Do I get a better price?

Posted prices are for loads under 200 lbs. Commercial quantities may qualify for higher pricing. Call ahead at (801) 266-7298, and we’ll give you a rate.

WHAT WE DON'T ACCEPT

Do you take refrigerators or freezers?

No, we don’t accept refrigerators or freezers due to the refrigerant. Wasatch Metal accepts them for a $20 fee to remove the freon.

Do you accept electronics or e-waste?

No. We don’t accept electronics, TVs, computers, or e-waste of any kind at this time.

Do you take full cars?

No, we don’t accept whole automobiles. The nearest yard that does is Wasatch Metals, 3300 S. 205 W., SLC — (801) 484-3511.

Do you take glass, plastic, paper, cardboard or tires?

No. Metal is our specialty, and we stick to what we’re good at. We don’t accept glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, electronics, or tires.

PREPARING YOUR METAL

Do I need to crush my aluminum cans?

It's not required, but it helps you. We buy cans by the pound, so crushing them just lets you fit more in the same space for transport. Crushed or not, the weight is the same.

How do I get the most money for my scrap?

Two things: sort your metals by type (don’t mix copper with steel), and bring “clean” material — non-steel metals like aluminum, copper, and brass that are free of contaminants like wood, plastic, rubber, paint, and attached steel. Cleaner, sorted metal pays more.

Do I need to remove glass, plastic, or attachments?

Where you can, yes — removing glass, plastic, rubber, and non-metal attachments gets you a better grade and price. If you’re not sure how to prep something, just ask our staff when you arrive; they’re happy to help.

SPECIAL ITEMS

What do I need to recycle a catalytic converter?
You’ll need a valid U.S. ID and proof of ownership.

  • The title of the vehicle it came from

And/Or

  • A repair receipt showing where it was removed.

Without proof of ownership, we can’t purchase it. We also can’t accept catalytic converters after 4 PM on weekdays or 1 PM on Saturdays.

Do you sell metal or parts to the public?

No, we don’t resell any items, including car parts, that have been brought in by other customers.

I had metal stolen, what should i do?

Call the police to report it stolen, then contact us right away. The faster we know, the better the chance we can identify the material if someone tries to bring it in.

Can I get a record of my transactions for taxes?

Yes — contact us with your details and we can help you get a printout of your past transactions.

Where does metal go after I bring it in?

The material we receive is shipped to local, national, and international mills, where it’s melted down and used to make new products. You get paid, and it stays out of the landfill.
